Hugo Alfven was born in Sweden in 1872. This composer belonged to the Modern (Serious) period, and died in 1960. Alfven

Alfven was born in Stockholm in 1872. His studies at the Stockholm Royal Conservatory led to a career as a conductor and composer. He wrote five symphonies and some programmatic works for orchestra. These later are light and tuneful, making some use of Swedish folk tunes. One of them is his Midsummer Vigil, often called the Swedish Rhapsody.
