William Byrd was an English composer and organist.  He was a great polyphonist, alongside Palestrina. His choral music includes Latin masses and motets, and English anthems.  He was a master at writing secular madrigals and he was also a pioneer in composing works for the keyboard.

His Pavan - The Earle of Salisbury is a fine example of his polyphonic keyboard work.
