Calixa Lavallée was born in Canada in 1842. This composer belonged to the Romantic period, and died in 1891.
Calixa Lavallée
Calixa Lavallée was born in 1842, near Montréal in Québec province,
Canada. He spent a large part of his career in the
USA, but as a French-Canadian-born composer, he was asked by the governor of Québec to compose
"O Canada" to a patriotic poem, to become Canada's national anthem. Lavallée died in Boston, Massachusets in 1891.
