Respighi Return to List of Composers
Otorino Respighi was born in Italy in 1879. This composer belonged to the Impressionist period, and died in 1936. Respighi

Otorino Resphighi (1879-1936)   was born in Bologna, Italy, and died in Rome. He learned the violin as a boy, then went to Russia to study with Rimsky-Korsakov,  and in 1908 he went to Germany to study composition with Max Bruch.     He was primarily a composer for orchestra, unlike most of his Italian contemporaries, for whom opera was the only important musical form.

He  follows the impressionistic style, and is a master of orchestration. He is especially noted for his suites "The Fountains of Rome" and "The Pines of Rome", and the wonderful ballet score La Boutique Fantasque, based on themes by Rossini.
