Sinding
Return to List of Composers
Christian Sinding was born in Norway in 1856. This composer belonged to the Modern (Serious) period, and died in 1941.
SindingChristian Sinding (1856-1941) was born in Kongsberg,
Norway. He studied violin in Leipzig, but then became a composer. In
Norway,
Grieg was "a hard act to follow", and Sinding did not attempt to emulate Grieg's folk and national idioms. Rather, he followed the late Germanic romantic style, exemplified by Richard Strauss and Wagner. He wrote 4 symphonies, violin sonatas and piano trios, and heaps of piano music, but
Rustle of Spring is his most well-known piece.
