Symphony No.3 in Eb Eroica 1st movement Beethoven Help Opus Details

Beethoven's 3rd symphony, written in 1804, marks a huge change in style from his preceding two symphonies. Its thunderous opening chords proclaim a new trend in music, the dawn of romanticism. Beethoven originally planned to dedicate it to his hero, Napoleon, and this explains why its subtitle is Eroica, which is Italian for Heroic. But when Napoleon crowned himself Emperor, it grossly offended Beethoven's avant-garde preferences for democracy, and he angrily tore apart his title page, and instead dedicated the work to a local patron of music, Prince Lobkowitz.

This 1st movement is a towering work in its own right, which almost ignores the earlier conventions of sonata form. After the introductory fortissimo chords accented by the timpani, the first theme is introduced by the cellos. Later the second theme is thrown from oboes to clarinets, to flutes, and to first violins, then the third theme is started on clarinets and taken up by the oboes.
