Symphony No.3 in Eb Eroica 4th movement Beethoven Help Opus Details

Beethoven's 3rd symphony, written in 1804, marks a huge change in style from his preceding two symphonies. Its thunderous opening chords proclaim a new trend in music, the dawn of romanticism. Beethoven originally planned to dedicate it to his hero, Napoleon, and this explains why its subtitle is Eroica, which is Italian for Heroic. But when Napoleon crowned himself Emperor, it grossly offended Beethoven's avant-garde preferences for democracy, and he angrily tore apart his title page, and instead dedicated the work to a local patron of music, Prince Lobkowitz.

This 4th movement is marked Finale with temp Allegro molto The introduction starts dramatically with a tremendous flurry of strings rushing down the scale, leading to a pause on a Bb dominant 7th chord played by tutti. Then the first theme is played pizzicato on the strings. Soon it is revealed that this is merely a bass line for a new tune, played by bowed first violins. Then it is the violas' turn, playing a triplet passage, still as counterpoint to the main first theme. Next the second theme emerges on the woodwinds, accompanied by the strings and French Horns.
