Beethoven's 5th Symphony was composed in 1807-1808 and dedicated to Prince Lobkowitz and Count Razumovsky.

The calm and confident air of this 2nd movement contrasts with the drama of the 1st. The violas have the honour to be the first instruments to present the well-known mellow tune which is the main theme of this movement.
