Pavan - The Earle of Salisbury Byrd Help Opus Details
For feedback and questions, please contact Victor Gomersall.
The pavan and galliard were renaissance dance movements that became William Byrd's favourites. The pavan is sometimes called a padovana or pavana, after the city of Padova in Italy, where it originated as a processional dance in duple time. This one was written as a memorial after the death of the Earl of Salibury in 1612. It was published in a collection entitled Parthenia.
