Fauré composed this in 1865, when 18 years old, at the end of his schooling at the École Niedermeyer (École de musique religieuse et classique) in Paris..He won first prize in composition for this work, it was his "graduation" piece. Jean Racine (1639-1699) was one of the three greatest French playrights and a poet, and the words of this song/hymn/cantata were written by him. The first line is Verbe égal au Trés-Haut
Although this is a choral work, this MIDI version is using two violins, viola and cello instead of soprano, contralto, tenor and bass, because these usually sound better on MIDI systems.
