Symphony No.6 in D 'Le Matin' Hob 1:6. 1st movement Haydn Help Opus Details
For feedback and questions, please contact Victor Gomersall.
Symphony no 6 in D was given the title 'Le Matin' at the suggestion of Haydn's employer, Prince Paul Esterhazy. It is a vividly coloured work. Some have suggested that the adagio opening of the first movement represents a sunrise. Haydn uses quite a lot of solo passages for various instruments, particularly the flute, in this movement, rather in the baroque 'sinfonia concertante' style.
