Sonata, K.281 in B-flat, 3rd movement Mozart Help Opus Details
For feedback and questions, please contact Victor Gomersall.
This is the third piano sonata written by Mozart, composed in 1774. This 3rd movement is in 4 part rondo form, with the pattern A B A C A D A B A.

The rondo starts with theme A in its first appearance in the home key of Bb major. There is then an episode leading from Theme A to theme B, and modulating from Bb major to its dominant key, F major. Next, theme B of rondo appears in F major. After a brief transition, theme A is repeated. Then theme C of rondo appears in the relative minor key of G minor. Another transition leads to theme A again. Then theme D arrives in the subdominant key of Eb major. This is developed fairly extensively, with a sort of cadenza passage employing trills in one hand against a quote of theme A in the other. Next, theme B is repeated, although this time it is in the home key of Bb instead of its original key of F major. Lastly, theme A arrives for the last time, and the movement is rounded off by a short coda.
