A Shanty in Old Shanty Town Help Opus Details
For feedback and questions, please contact Victor Gomersall.
"In a Shanty in Old Shanty Town" is a popular song written by Ira Schuster and Jack Little with lyrics by Joe Young, published in 1932. Ted Lewis and His Band performed it in the film The Crooner in 1932. His version was released as a single and it went to #1, where it remained for 10 weeks. (Source - Wikipedia). This arrangement by Victor Gomersall starts out as a slow waltz, with violins in the background. But soon it switches to a fast 4/4 beat in trad jazz style. I had fun writing the twirly flourishes around the 16th bar of this tune, sometimes on trumpet, once on piano, and once on clarinet.
