Mozart composed this
clarinet quintet in Vienna in 1789 for his friend, the clarinettist Stadler. It is a masterpiece, making full use of the clarinet's tone and blending capabilities, in low and high registers. It also gave Stadler an opportunity to show off his virtuoso skills. And it contains a wealth of fabulous tunes! No wonder it is amongst the all-time classical top favourites!
This third movement is a minuet and trio, but actually it has two trios, one in A minor and one in A major. The overall structure of this movement is
ABACA. Minuet, Trio-1, Minuet, Trio-2, Minuet.
