This is a charming French nursery rhyme. Obviously, there is a great deal of confusion as to whether the subject is a shepherd or a shepherdess, as the title uses the masculine pronoun Il with the feminine noun bergere In this edition, the words have been changed to consistently describe a shepherdess.
It sounds very authentic and rustic when played on the cor anglais, with a gentle string quartet accompanying it. This PDF score also includes all the instrumental parts, for Cor Anglais, and string quartet players.
