Beethoven's 7th Symphony is one of his heroic masterworks, along with the 3rd, the 5th and the 9th symphonies. It is odd, isn't it, that his greatest symphonies are all odd-numbered ones? This, his 7th, was not only a musical success for Beethoven, but also a great financial success for him, very important as he was almost totally deaf and could neither perform nor conduct.
This 4th movement is marked allegro. It is full of manic fury, dominated by monumentally grand themes, with heaps of timpani and blazing french horns.
