This tune was originally a German folk tune, but it was adopted by an American writer, Septimus Winner, in 1820. He wrote the words well-known to English-speaking children today, to fit this tune.
Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone
Oh where, oh where can he be
With his ears cut short and his tail cut long
Oh where, oh where can he be?
